What is an Air Fryer
Let’s get down to the basics first. What is an air fryer? I know many of you have them sitting on your kitchen counters right now; however, for those who don’t, let’s get into what it actually is. An air fryer is really just magic. It uses hot air in a contained space to make your food crispy, similar to if you were to deep fry them. The best part? You get almost identical results of deep frying without all the calories used for frying.
Traditional deep frying uses oil to fry (and usually not the uses we’re very fond of). With air frying, you’re using little to no oil each time! For this recipe, you will use less than 2 TBSP of extra virgin olive oil for the whole batch. Deep frying could NEVER.
How Long to Air Fry Buffalo Chicken Tenders
When it comes to the air fryer, this seems to be the part everyone gets stuck at. How long do you air fry literally anything? For buffalo chicken tenders, I recommend cooking at 350 for 5 minutes on each side. If your tenders are a little thick, then consider adding another minute to each side. Keep in mind every air fryer is different, so times may vary! I recommend lightly oiling again after flipping your chicken tenders over to make sure the other side is just as crispy as the first!
Fresh vs. Frozen Chicken Tenders
Let’s talk fresh vs frozen chicken tenders. Sure, you can get your box of tenders out of the freezer and toss them in the air fryer as well. However, with just 10 more minutes of time, you’re able to make a healthier, crispier and overall better product; you’re going to be CRAVING.
I will also push you to make things yourself, especially if it doesn’t take that much more time or effort to do so. Those frozen chicken tenders have some sort of preservatives and were 100% processed (we don’t need that in our life).
How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Tenders
Step 1: Gather all your ingredients. I like to measure everything out first, so they’re ready once you need them!
Step 2: If you’re using chicken breasts- slice your chicken into pieces. I got about 5 pieces per breast. If you’re using chicken tenderloins, just skip this step!
Step 3: Crush those cornflakes! Add them to a plastic sealable bag and start crushing them with your hands.
Step 4: Get your bowls ready. In one bowl, add your flour & spices; in the second, add your eggs and whisk. In the third bowl, add your crushed cornflakes.
Step 5: Time to dredge! Start with your flour, then eggs, and finish with your cornflakes.
Step 6: Arrange your chicken tenders in the air fryer, making sure they don’t overlap. Lightly coat with extra virgin olive oil and cook at 350 for 5 minutes on each side.
Step 7: Admire your perfectly cooked chicken tenders and remove them from the basket.
Step 8: Coat in your favourite buffalo sauce & honey, and enjoy!
