What is Margherita Flatbread?Â
Margherita pizza is a classic vegetarian option with just three simple ingredients: mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, and basil. Because it’s so simple, it takes no time to prep Margherita pizza and is cooked in 15 minutes or less. Flatbread, on the other hand, is a pre-cooked bread with a similar experience to traditional pizza dough. For this recipe, I used naan bread, which is a cousin of the flatbread. By using flatbread, there’s no need to pre-cook your dough, which significantly reduces your cook time.

The Importance of IngredientsÂ
Since there’s only really three (four) main ingredients for Margherita pizza, the quality of your ingredients really needs to shine or you’ll be left with a blah pizza (we don’t want that now). Let’s get into how to pick the right ingredients to leave you with zero leftovers and happy bellies: Tomato Sauce: The tomato sauce is really the star to any pizza. If you can nail a good sauce, then everything else will just complement it. I recommend checking out my super simple tomato sauce recipe to use for this recipe! Tomatoes: You can really use any tomatoes for your Margherita pizza, but obviously, some are better than others. I used heirloom tomatoes because a) they came in several colours, so they’re aesthetic and b) they’re firmer tomatoes that will keep their shape in the oven. Another good option would be a Roma tomato, since they are a classic Italian option that will also keep it’s shape. Mozzarella: When it comes to cheese, it’s more about the quantity (right?). For this recipe I went with a fresh mozzarella (the ball you have to cut). This is a fresher option than pre-shredded and doesn’t really take much work. Basil: With basil, your two options are fresh or dried. Fresh basil is ALWAYS going to win in my books. Dried basil doesn’t have the same taste or flavour fresh basil does. I recommend spending the extra dollar and getting the fresh- you’ll thank me.Is Margherita Flatbread Healthy?Â

Tips for Making the Perfect Margherita Flatbread
- We actually want that cheese to melt! Try and slice thin slices of mozzarella to add onto of your flatbread. The same also goes for the tomatoes.
- Don't add the basil until after your pizza's been in the oven. The heat will just make it wilt, and not look very pretty.
- Looking to spice it up? Try adding some balsamic vinegar, chili flakes, or even some pickled eggplant to spice it up.
What to Serve with Margherita Flatbread
When serving up a mouthwatering Margherita pizza, don’t forget about those healthy sides to balance the indulgence. Opt for a crisp garden salad loaded with fresh greens, cherry tomatoes, and a balsamic vinaigrette for a burst of freshness. Roasted vegetables like zucchini and bell peppers drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with Italian herbs are a hit, too. And, of course, a simple bowl of sliced fruits can add a sweet touch. These sides perfectly complement your Margherita pizza recipe, creating a delicious and well-rounded meal.
