Recipe for Healthy Guacamole

745

So you’re craving a little guacamole and want to make some at home? Today we’re talking about my recipe for healthy guacamole! This recipe is ready in less than 10 minutes, and you can enjoy it all summer long!

Is Guacamole Healthy?

I know lots of you are heading over to Google to see if guacamole is actually healthy for you. Guacamole itself is packed with great ingredients. Avocado has lots of healthy fats (even though it’s high in calories)(it’s fine). Everything else in guacamole, from garlic, lemon juice, cilantro, and tomatoes, are all great for you. The other great thing about guacamole is that it’s vegan, which makes it the perfect app to bring to your next party!

Where guacamole starts to fall off the rails on the healthy scale is when the chips get added. In moderation, of course, it can be healthy, but half a bag of chips later- not so much. The problem with guac is that once you start, it’s hard to stop eating it!

What to Eat with Guacamole?

So you made the thing, and now what are you going to eat with it? The most obvious is, of course, with chips. Guac is also great for taco night or burritos (including those burrito bowls). That guacamole might be the perfect addition, depending on what kind of salad you’re having!

How to Store Guacamole

Okay, this is the most important part of this whole article. If you don’t store your guacamole properly, you will be left with a whole lot of brown, and we both know you don’t want that!

When storing your guac, first get yourself an air-tight storage container. Next, scoop all that guacamole in, and smooth it over to be flat on the top. Next, grab some plastic wrap and press it into the guacamole make sure it’s flat as can be, then press it up against the sides of the container. Once that is secured, add your lid, and you’re all set!

This should help extend the life of your guac! If you enjoy it in more than one sitting, make sure to do the same when storing it.

How to Make Healthy Guacamole

Step 1: Step one is always to gather all your ingredients. Dice your tomatoes & jalapenos, mince your garlic and measure out all your other ingredients.

Step 2: Remove the green part of your avocado from its shell and add it to a bowl. It probably isn’t ripe enough if you can’t easily take your avocado out of the shell. Next, grab a fork and mash your avocado until your desired consistency. I like to leave a couple of chucks in there for fun.
