How to Make Homemade Roasted Red Pepper Hummus

Tips for Perfect Homemade Hummus Recipes
- Getting those skins off your chickpeas isn't essential, but will make for a smooth hummus! Be sure to microwave them with baking soda to loosen the skins.
- Be sure to save some of that chickpea liquid! Instead of adding water I used the liquid to help get that smooth texture.
- It's not hummus without something to dip it in! I recommend serving with fresh veggies or pita. It's even better if you can make your own homemade pita!
Let’s Talk Substitutions
If you can’t find any roasted red peppers in a jar, then roasting your own red peppers is definitely an option! It will just take a bit more time. Make sure your peppers are cool before blending them with the rest of your ingredients. If you don’t have any tahini, then almond butter can be used instead. Lastly, if you don’t have any olive oil, then you could use avocado oil, or canola if needed (but we don’t like canola as much).
Why You'll Love It
- You’ll love roasted red pepper hummus for its smoky, rich flavour that pairs perfectly with veggies, pita, or even as a spread on sandwiches. Making it at home is super easy and quick, taking just 10 minutes. The blend of roasted red peppers and creamy chickpeas creates an irresistible dip that’s both healthy and delicious. Plus, you get to use fresh ingredients, making it a tasty and wholesome snack you’ll want to make again and again.
What to Serve with Homemade Hummus
Obviously, we know you can’t go wrong with fresh veggies. Cucumbers, carrots, peppers, cauliflower you name it- it will be good! Now, if you’re looking to go the extra mile Sweet Simple Vegan’s homemade pita bread recipe is to DIE FOR. Not only did my boyfriend and I make it once, but twice in one weekend because we were inhaling them with the hummus! They are the pitas I used in the photos you saw above, and although they are a bit of work they are SO good. I recommend just doubling the recipe to start 😏.
