What is Air Frying & Why is it Better for You?

 Air fryers look similar to an instant pot but have a removable basket. The air fryer works by moving hot air around at a very high speed to give you that crispy texture you’d usually get from frying in oil.
 
The best part of the air fryer is that it uses a fraction of the oil to give you almost identical results. This helps cut down on fat and calories, leaving you with all the goodness without the unwanted fats!
 
The air fryer helps reduce the risk of getting burned by oil and is safer to use than the traditional oil & pot. Still need convincing to give air frying a try?

What Can You Air Fry?

Honestly, you can air fry pretty much anything. Appetizers are the best to use in the air fryer, like wings, jalapeno poppers, shrimp and fries. You can also use your air fryer for cooking chicken or fish. I’ve even found the air fryer is the best to reheat pizza! One of my all-time favourite air fryers makes is homemade croutons (def give it a try!) 

 

To no one’s surprise, you can air fryer anything you would typically fry in oil, like deep-fried wings, zucchini, or even spring rolls.

 

Now, there are some things I wouldn’t try in the air fryer, like making a quesadilla. The top is too light and ends up making a mess or burning. On that note, anything that’s super light and can easily fly around the air fryer probably shouldn’t be in there. 

 

How Much Oil Do You Need

Alot less than you think! Some recipes don’t even need oil, but if you do, always check the recipe. I use one of those silicone brushes to brush my air fryer food before cooking. For both sides of a full basket, I’m usually looking at 1 tbsp of olive. 

 

On that note, I am always supposed to use extra virgin olive oil 1. because it’s the best (says the biased Italian) and 2. it’s an oil that’s typically better for you.
